DIRECTOR OF SALES AND MARKETING, SLACK BOOKS

The role of the Director of Sales and Marketing, SLACK Books is to conceptualize, implement, and execute all sales and marketing activities to support the organization’s three central goals. These are: maximizing book sales, building relationships with customers that support sales and adoptions, and cultivating relationships with authors.

Responsibilities include:

  • involvement with all aspects of marketing, communications, and sales, including the supervision and approval of all email and print campaigns, catalogs, space ads, trade shows, adoption campaigns, and website creation and upkeep
  • managing interns and freelancers who support our marketing team
  • acting as key contact for domestic/international book and ebook distributors, aggregators, re-sellers, and customers, including presenting new titles to key accounts on an annual or semi-annual basis
  • prospecting for new business with authors, customers and interested third parties
  • meeting regularly with key authors to align efforts and maximize opportunities, particularly for securing quantity sales and utilizing authors’ specialized contacts
  • working closely with editorial and production staff to ensure accurate sales information is relayed to our distribution partners and authors
  • maintaining and growing existing business
  • acting as a key player in acquisition decisions on approval of new titles for all book areas
  • contributing valuable input on developing concepts for launching new Books lines
  • traveling to appropriate content and professional trade shows to meet with existing and prospective clients, and to stay aware of current market trends

Requirements:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Marketing, Communications or similar field
  • minimum experience of 10 years in book publishing with a background in textbook publishing for higher education preferred
  • minimum experience of 10 years in a management role, preferably with a background in publishing

Travel of up to 25%.

To allow for a high degree of collaboration, the ideal candidate will be able to work at our southern NJ office one day per week or a few days per month.
