Nephrology News & Issues Names New Associate Editors
Graham Abra, MD, and Anna Burgner, MD, MEHP take on the new positions on the Editorial Advisory Board

THOROFARE, N.J., Oct. 14, 2020 – Healio has named Graham Abra, MD, and Anna Burgner, MD, MEHP, Associate Editors for Nephrology News & Issues (NNI) and Healio Nephrology. The positions are new additions to the NNI Editorial Advisory Board.
Graham Abra, MD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology at Stanford University and is the Senior Director of Medical Clinical Affairs at Satellite Healthcare. Dr. Abra’s clinical practice focuses on the care of patients with advanced chronic kidney disease, and he has a particular interest in home dialysis therapies. He has served as the Medical Director of WellBound San Jose, a home dialysis center for the past five years and has a deep interest in physician education.
“I am excited to join the editorial team at Nephrology News & Issues which has a unique and valuable perspective within the nephrology community,” Dr. Abra said. “I look forward to growing the social media presence of NNI and providing input on the topics that are of greatest interest to nephrologists today.”
Dr. Abra earned his medical degree at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine in 2006, followed by Internal Medicine Residency and a year as a Chief Medical Resident also at UCSD. He went on to complete a Nephrology Fellowship at Stanford, spending two research years in the Stanford Clinical Excellence Research Center.
Anna Burgner, MD, MEHP, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and is also the associate program director for the Nephrology fellowship. She also serves as the director of the university’s inpatient dialysis clinic. She received her Doctor of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine in 2007, completed her internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and went on to earn her Master of Education in the Health Professions at Johns Hopkins University in 2015.
“Medical education is a constant, never ending process for all in medical fields,” Dr. Burgner said. “Nephrology News & Issues fills a unique role in education of medical professionals in the field of nephrology, and I’m very excited to join the editorial team and look forward to further growing its educational value.”
Dr. Burgner has clinical interests in the treatment of kidney diseases during pregnancy, polycystic kidney disease, and glomerular diseases. She focuses research efforts on slowing the progression of kidney disease and on clinical trials involving diabetic nephropathy, polycystic kidney disease, and hypertension in chronic kidney disease. Dr. Burgner has both clinical experience and a strong drive to improve medical education.
