Journal of Nursing Education announces winner of the Christine A. Tanner Scholarly Writing Award

October 2023

Thorofare, NJ – SLACK Incorporated’s Journal of Nursing Education is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s annual Christine A. Tanner Scholarly Writing Award.

The 2023 winners are Caitlin M. Nye, MSN, RN, NPD-BC, CHSE and Jess Dillard-Wright, PhD, MA, RN, CNM, for their article, “Queering the Classroom: Teaching Nurses Against Oppression,” which was published in the April 2023 issue of the Journal.

The article can be read here.

According to the JNE Award Judging Committee, “Authors really challenge the reader to adopt a different lens by which to address oppression. Their approach is novel and requires faculty to explore their positionality relative to oppression – in all its forms. Their approach reflects risk-taking on their part and demonstrates they are willing to ‘walk the walk.’”

This award has been established by SLACK Incorporated, publisher of the Journal of Nursing Education, in recognition of the contributions of Christine A. Tanner, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF, who served as Editor of the Journal from 1991-2012 and is now Editor Emeritus. One of the most influential voices in the field, Dr. Tanner had, and continues to have, a profound impact on a generation of nurse educators through her work as a writer, teacher, researcher-scholar, and mentor and friend to faculty, students, and colleagues across the United States and around the world.

The purpose of this award is to recognize excellence in writing and the impact of outstanding research or other scholarly works on advancing knowledge in the field of nursing education.

The Journal publishes major articles, research briefs, educational innovations, and syllabus selections. Articles are posted monthly on the Journal’s website, journals.healio.com/jne.
