Heather Young, PhD, RN, FAAN, named Editor of Research in Gerontological Nursing

THOROFARE, NJ – SLACK Incorporated, an independent STM publishing company, is pleased to announce that Heather Young, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been named the Editor of its peer-reviewed journal Research in Gerontological Nursing (RGN). Dr. Young will be responsible for the overall quality, integrity, and content of the Journal.

Dr. Young is a Professor and Dean Emerita for the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at the University of California, Davis, as well as the National Director of the Betty Irene Moore Fellowship Program for Nurse Leaders and Innovators. She is a nationally recognized expert in gerontological nursing and rural health care who played an integral role in the establishment of five new graduate programs in Nursing Science and Health-Care Leadership. Since 2018, she has served as the Public Policy Section Editor for Journal of Gerontological Nursing, RGN’s sister publication.

On taking on the new role as Editor of RGN, Dr. Young said: “I am honored to join the stellar team at RGN in this capacity and to work with talented gerontological researchers to bring cutting-edge findings to our valued audience.  Gerontological nursing research has never been more important, as individuals, families, communities, and systems grapple with the challenges and opportunities of an aging and diverse society. Gerontological nurses are asking and answering the questions vital to our future. I am eager to advance this work.”

Dr. Young succeeds Christine R. Kovach, PhD, RN, FAAN, FGSA, the Journal’s past Editor. Dr. Kovach will join former editor Kathleen C. Buckwalter, PhD, RN, FAAN as Editor Emerita.
